Issac, example of Submisssion

Scripture Reading: Genesis 22:1-19

Key Verse: The fire and the wood are here, Isaac said, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering (Genesis 22:7b)

Meditation: God refers to Himself as the God of Abraham., Isaac and Jacob, so it appears that all three persons are needed to fully reflect who God is and how He deals with people. Abraham is considered to be the origination f o the Jewish nation thorough the initiative of God. What, then, do those two other patriarchs teach us, especially Isaac, almost overlooked by biblical scholars?

Isaac demonstrates submission. At this event he was probable just in his teens. He did not resist parental authority as he trudged up the steep climb on Mt. Moriah to worship and sacrifice. He asked that one question, "Where is the lamb?" He was young and strong and could have run away from his elderly father. Isaac's trustful acquiescence to being the "lamb" is most amazing and must be appreciated  deeply. We also admire Abraham who, according to Hebrews 11:19, was motivated by his faith in the resurrection power of God. We can see in this act of absolute surrender on the part of Isaac a shadowing of Jesus, expect that Jesus actually was our sacrificial Lamb.

Isaac received a marvelous inheritance from his father, Abraham, the gift of grace and acceptance into the family of God without having to offer himself as the sacrifice.

Thought for the day: God is ultimate originator of our salvation provided for us by his Son as the Lamb.
God replacing Isaac with a lamb.
An Israeli placing a lamb's blood over his door in obedience to the words of Moses... that the Angle of death would passover his household.
This is Jesus. This son was not spared. His blood protects us if we accept it.
