Jacob Working

Scripture Reading:  Genesis 29: 16-30

Key Verse: Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, I'll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter, Rachael. (Genesis 29:18)

Meditation: Jacob's journey of escape  planned by Rebekah took him to Laban, Rebekah's brother. His work and his future revolved around a tricky person. Both Jacob's relatives and he himself continue to practice the manipulation of deception. Jacob loves Rachael, but is tricked into becoming the groom of Leah, Rachel's older sister. He has to work seven more years for Rachel. We admire his devotion and to work seven more years for Rachel. We admire his devotion and perseverance. Finally, he has Rachel. We admire his devotion and perseverance. Finally, he has Rachel as his bride, but Leah has children and Rachel is barren.

Even though the grace of God continues for these who are becoming the people of God for the redemption of the human race, the people themselves do not show much grace to each other. Laban tricks Jacob in turn tricks Laban and multiples his herd and flock. Finally, Jacob realizes he must run again. Rachel agrees and encourages him to do whatever he must do. Again God steps in redemptively for Jacob. in Genesis 31:24 the Lord God appears to Laban and warns him not so say anything to Jacob, good or bad. So God is guiding Jacob and his family in yet another move towards the redemption of the world.

Thought for the Day:  God uses people in whom we see many flaws. We can be thankful that He blesses us, too, in spite of our flaws.
