Scripture Reading: Exodus 3:1-4
Key Verse: When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him...(Exodus 3:4)
Meditation: Moses learned that God's great revelations come to those who have responded in obedience to the commands they have already received. All revelation has implied responsibility, but the clearer the revelation, the greater the responsibility. The initial natural revelation, the tree ablaze, Moses saw. If he had refused to stop, he would still have been accountable to God. He would have missed the full potential of the encounter with God. The actual liberation of the Israeli people started, not at the Red Sea, but here in the desert when Moses stopped to examine the tree that was burning but was not consumed.
Moses also learned that God is the ultimate initiator of all *religious experiences. Moses was not seeking God, but God was looking for Moses. Moses was not seeking God, but God needed a worker. Moses was herding the sheep when God appeared. We can realize that becoming a Christian did not begin with our decision, but with God's effective call upon our lives. The fact is, when that call first came, we were still dead in our trespasses and sins, hardly a fit candidate for making a decision. Most of resembled Saul of Tarsus who was still resiting God, but received the revelation in spite of his protests.
* Here, my Uncle is writing about a relationship. The Creator God would like a friendship with all of humanity. Religion can be corrupted and forced. The Christian experience is not so much about laws but is all about grace, unmerited favour.
