Scripture Reading: Exodus 3:3-7
Key Verse: So I have come down to rescue them (Exodus 3:8)
Meditation: God, thought all the years of Israel's history, had actively been involved in the life of the Israeli people. He clearly heard, saw and remembered everything that transpired since He made his covenants with Abraham 800 years earlier. God now reassures Moses that His faithfulness to past generations would be extended to his until everything He had promised would be fulfilled.
Now Moses would experience God's decision to manifest Himself visibly and to audibly talk in our space/time world. God actually presented Himself to Moses and spoke out of the fire. While God could observe from the perspective of heaven, it seems that in order to bring about change on earth, He must come to earth Himself. God not only called Moses; He was also committing Himself to work through Moses. God even accommodated Himself to allowing Moses the help of Aaron, although that was not God's initial plan.
God came down to deliver Israel from Egypt and to bring them to the Promised Land. One aspect of the Abrahamic covenant would remain unfulfilled for the next 1,500 years. One greater then Moses would come (Christ) who would save the people from their sins. The deliverance by Moses only prefigures faintly the greater deliverance Christ would provide form he power of sin into the services of God.
Thought for the Day: At Pentecost, Christ, through the Spirit, reenacted in His disciples all He provide on the cross for the full freedom of His people to serve God with singleness of heard. - I think what my uncle is trying to say here is that at Pentecost the fire of the Holy Spirit came inside our bodies (Acts 2: 2-13)
