Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:1-11
Key Verse: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8).
Meditation: God gave us five senses, sight being the most dominant. However, we cannot see the kingdom of God unless we are born again. Without this spiritual sight our human understanding limits us to this world.
Paul says in I Corinthians 2:14, “The man without the Spirit does nothing accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. . . and he cannot because they are spiritually discerned.” Paul further divides mankind into three classes: The natural man, unrenewed by the Holy Spirit; and carnal man, who has not surrendered completely to Christ and thus only able only to comprehend elementary scriptural truths; and the Spirit filled man who produces the fruit of the dedicated life (Ephesians 5: 1 Galatians 5:22,23).
John Moffatt, gifted teacher and Bible translator, said that those who are not double-minded are blessed and will be admitted into the presence of God. The double-minded would be those first two classes of people mentioned in the paragraph above, the natural man and the carnal man. The double-minded man suggests instability, unsettledness, and lack of personal integrity. The spiritual man, on the other hand, depicts single-mindedness towards God and pure motives.
Thought for the Day: Practicing the presence of God means focusing the center of our lives on God.
