Scripture Reading: Exodus 14:13, 14
Key Verse: “. . . see the deliverance of the LORD...” (Exodus 14:13).
Meditation: The third directorate for Moses was the imperative see the deliverance of the LORD. The word “deliverance” always includes in Exodus a retrospective and a future dimension. God never intended to merely get Israel out of Egypt, but also to fulfill a higher purpose. Moses asks Israel to look back and remember the miraculous acts of
God in order to galvanize their hope in His future deliverance and further purpose for them as a nation.
To stand still certainly does not mean to remain passive in a crisis. Neither does it suggest that prayer for God’s intervention is not necessary. But it does mean we should recognize it is ultimately God’s battle. We should not attempt to use human wisdom or a human weapon to bring down the Pharaohs who pursue us.
In Ephesians 6, Paul emphasizes the importance of the believer standing firm, and also recognizes we are fighting a very real battle With an enemy requiring supernatural weapons. If we underestimate Our enemy we shall see no need for God’s armor. If we overestimate the enemy we will panic and lose our ground. All our Christian life we must remember that spiritual warfare means we have a spiritual enemy for whom we need spiritual weapons.
Thought for the Day: Remembering God’s intervention from our past crises gives us a renewed trust in God’s purpose for our future.
