God’s Ten Rules for Living (6)

Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:7

Key Verse: You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God...(Exodus 2O:7)

Meditation: The Japanese people help you to meet others by giving you a business card. On the back they write your name and a words of commendation. You take the card to another person who w then trust you for business or friendship on the recommendation of first reference card. These pleasant openings for future relations come because a friend trusted you with his name.

God shared His name with Moses at the burning bush. Moses realized immediately that God’s name and God’s character were intimate related. Moses took off his shoes in acknowledgment of God awesome presence. (After being instructed to do so. Ex 3:5) In the Bible, the character of God, the presence God and the name of God are synonymous. When you say or acknowledge one aspect you have all three.

Jesus, in the Lord’s Prayer, said, “Hallowed be your name.” People must be awakened to the presence of God by the way we talk about Him. Jesus says, Not everyone who says Lord, Lord, will be honor n His presence. God’s name is not a magical formula for success. Our use of His name must be accompanied by a personal relationship with Him and a commitment to His character and presence.

Thought for the Day: God’s name is our passport into the intimacy of His awesome presence.
